Naples

"The authentic heart of the Mediterranean"

Naples is a city you don’t visit: you live it. Overlooking the splendid Gulf dominated by Mount Vesuvius, it is one of the oldest cities in Europe and a unique blend of history, art, tradition, and passion. Every street tells a story, every view is breathtaking.

Capitale culturale del Sud Italia, Napoli è un mosaico di emozioni, capace di sorprendere in ogni stagione.

The history of Naples begins over 2,700 years ago. According to tradition, Greek colonists from Cumae founded a first settlement called Parthenope on the Pizzofalcone promontory in the 8th century BC.

In the 5th century BC, Neapolis (“new city”) was born, designed according to a modern and rational urban plan, which still survives today in the Decumani of the historic center. Naples quickly became an important cultural center of Magna Graecia, maintaining its Hellenic language, institutions, and traditions even under successive rulers.

Naples has lived through many eras, from the Roman era to the Normans, the Angevins, and the Aragonese, but with the advent of the Bourbons, Naples once again became the capital of an independent kingdom. It was an era of reform, modernization, and cultural splendor. The following were born: The Teatro San Carlo, the oldest opera house still in operation The National Archaeological Museum Major urban planning and scientific works Naples became one of the most advanced centers of the European Enlightenment.
